Torino Purchase Adrien Tameze from Hellas Verona

Perennial mid-table Serie A tenants Torino have captured the signature of long-serving Hellas Verona midfielder Adrien Tameze. As announced by the club’s official website on Sunday, the French-born star has become Ivan Juric’s first summer signing.

At long last, Torino have addressed one of the most burning issues. Barring young guns Samuele Ricci and Ivan Ilic, Il Toro lacked quality in the engine room last season. It’s fair to assume that the absence of an experienced midfielder curtailed their European aspirations in 2022/23.

Juric seems to have been alert to this matter for quite some time. Earlier this week, his men were offered a chance to sign veteran playmaker Joao Moutinho. But at 36, his profile failed to convince Torino to indulge Jorge Mendes’ bid to find his aging client home in Italy.

Instead, Torino have signed an experienced Serie A campaigner. Tameze joined Verona in the summer of 2020 following a rather underwhelming loan stint at Atalanta. But while his time in Bergamo didn’t go as planned, the 29-year-old has thrived at Marc’Antonio Bentegodi.

Tameze collected 108 appearances for Verona during his three-year stint at the club. He was essential to the club’s successful survival fight last season. But tired of fighting in the lower reaches, he’s ready to embark on a new chapter at Torino.

After sealing the deal for Tameze, Il Toro could soon add another midfielder. Inter-linked Roberto Pereyra has turned down a bid from Besiktas to secure a Serie A stay. It’s believed Torino are in pole position to land the ex-Udinese captain.
