Torino to Repel Inter and Juve Advances for Buongiorno

Torino almost sent Alessandro Buongiorno to Atalanta last summer, and they’ll face bigger threats in 2024, as Inter and Juventus have reportedly earmarked him for the future, SportMediaset informs. The Granata president Urbano Cairo dished on the defender to Gazzetta TV after attending the ‘DLA Piper Sport Forum.’

“He told me that he would have been happy to continue with us, and I said: ‘Great, stay put, and we’ll have a great season.’ We have a personal understanding, so I no longer think about selling him.”

“Buongiorno was born here, as he joined when he was 7, and he’s 24 now. He loves Torino and is a really great guy. He’s well-mannered and educated and is perfect for us. Ricardo Rodriguez is the captain, but he’ll take over in the future. We shouldn’t say that too much though. Daniele De Rossi had such a status at Roma for years and never became it in the end.”

The president refused to set a price tag when asked about it. The center-back would have transferred to Atalanta for just below €30M if he accepted the move. Buongiorno earned the praise of Luciano Spalletti for his performance against Ukraine, and Cairo agreed.

“I’m really proud of him and Italy. They qualified for the Euro, which is important. He had a great game. It wasn’t easy since he was booked after six minutes, but he managed to get to the end. We talked after the match, and he was truly happy.”
