Toronto FC Planning to Steal Insigne with Bumper Offer

Napoli legend Lorenzo Insigne has arguably been the most-talked about player when it comes to an outgoing transfer this season, with his contract in Naples expiring at the end of the current season. His impending free agent status is of much concern to a Napoli side who are experiencing one of their best seasons so far in recent memory.

An unlikely suitor has been linked to his move – Toronto FC have emerged as a potential destination for the EURO 2020 winner. The 30-year-old has so far failed to agree new terms of contract with club president Aurelio De Laurentiis and the upcoming winter transfer window (from January 2 onwards) will place Insigne in a position to initiate talks with other clubs over a transfer.

Insigne has been offered €3.5m net per season on a four-year contract deal by the Partenopei but he prefers to receive €5m instead. In stark contrast, Toronto are said to be ready to offer him a whopping €7m net per season deal plus add-ons, on a similar four-year contract (via Calciomercato).

Having spent his entire top-flight career in the south of Italy, Insigne is touted to move to a different playing environment. Toronto’s new MLS season begins in March 2022 and the Canadians are reportedly keen on securing his services before the start of the season.

Inter and Tottenham are also keeping close tabs on Insigne’s stance.
