Tottenham and Milan Eyeing Lille Goalkeeper Mike Maignan

Milan are confident they will eventually reach agreement with Gianluigi Donnarumma, whose contract ends in June. However, they are monitoring other goalkeepers as a precaution and they are intrigued by Mike Maignan, L’Equipe reports. Tottenham are also chasing after the Lille’s 25-year-old player as potential replacement for Hugo Lloris.

Maignan is a product of PSG’s youth academy, which he left for Les Dogues in 2015. He has had an impressive growth over the years and in particular in the current season, where his team is seriously contending for the title. He has amassed 172 appearances with Lille, conceding 191 goals and keeping sixty clean sheets.

Milan are currently in a standoff with Donnarumma’s agent Mino Raiola, who has made lofty requests in the extension talks. Lloris instead has another year left in his deal with the Spurs, but he might push for a move to Manchester United in the summer if David De Gea ends up leaving. Maignan is in the same contractual position as Lloris and his price tag is around €20M. While he seems keener on the transferring to London, Milan could have an edge if they qualified to Champions League and Tottenham did not.

Maignan was a third stringer when Zlatan Ibrahimovic was at PSG and the two often stayed together after practice for shooting drills. The Elliot fund, which owns Milan, is also heavily involved in Lille because of a considerable loan, but the new ownership that was installed in December is expected to reimburse it.
