Tottenham Defender Flattered by Milan Interest & Wants Transfer

Departing Tottenham Hotspur right-back Emerson Royal has publicly expressed his admiration for Milan amid speculation linking him with the Rossoneri. He has also confirmed there are ongoing negotiations between the clubs.

There were already talks earlier this month that Emerson was keen to join Milan. The player has now removed all doubts, openly flirting with the seven-time European champions amid the club’s effort to broker a deal with Tottenham.

“The truth is that I don’t have anything definite, of course. Knowing that Milan are talking to Tottenham and asking about me is very satisfying because they are a team famous for Brazilian players,” Emerson said in an interview with the YouTube channel of Brazilian journalist Andre Hernan, as quoted by Calciomercato.

“People know the great Brazilian footballers who have joined Milan. Let’s wait and see what happens. It’s a very nice and ‘heavy’ jersey, and knowing that you’re looking for me makes me very happy.

In addition to Emerson, Milan are targeting another Premier League right-back. Aston Villa’s Matty Cash has become a concrete target for Paulo Fonseca’s team, but the Lions’ asking price remains a sticking point. Unai Emery’s men value their Polish star at around €35 million.

Since Milan have no intention of meeting Villa’s eye-watering price tag, Emerson has leapfrogged Cash on the club’s shortlist. But he won’t come cheap either. Tottenham paid Barcelona nearly €30m to sign him in 2021 and are fully expecting to recoup their investment

However, banking on the player’s wish to join them, Milan hope to get a discount and close the deal at around half that figure.
