Tottenham Lead Race for Disgruntled Roma Star Zaniolo

Nicolò Zaniolo and Roma are ready to part ways in January should a worthy offer arrive. His agents and the club are on the same page on the matter, but the Giallorossi wants him to move only on a permanent transfer or on loan with obligation to buy, Gianluca Di Marzio reports.

The capital side set a €40M price tag, considering they have to give Inter 15 percent of it. At this stage, Tottenham have been the only ones to show concrete interest. But they didn’t propose a formula that meets the request. The player is open to leaving Italy, differently from the past.

According to Alfredo Pedullà, Zaniolo and Roma are at odds, and a reconciliation doesn’t seem to be in order. Even if he stayed, his role would be marginal. Therefore, his camp is trying to find a way out. The club could eventually settle for €30M as long as he departs for good.

While Tottenham are the keenest, West Ham, Nottingham Forest, and Borussia Dortmund are also eyeing the forward. Arsenal were too, but they are acquiring Leandro Trossard from Brighton. The parties are working together toward a split, although the bid would have to be proper.

Our Take on Roma and Zaniolo

It’s a natural outcome since the extension talks have gone nowhere and he hasn’t played well enough to fuel his requests. On the other hand, it’s unclear what escalated the situation so dramatically and if the cause was simply the boos from the fans. Serie A sides don’t seem to be in the picture, and the Giallorossi might prefer selling him abroad. Napoli and Juventus are set in his role, but Milan could use somebody with his traits.
