Tottenham Seeking Alternatives as Atalanta Reject First Bid for Romero

Tottenham made a strong offer for Cristian Romero, but Atalanta turned it down. The Spurs put €50M on the table between the initial fee and add-ons. But the Bergamaschi, as they had done with Manchester United, asked for €60M to sell their ace defender, Tuttosport reports.

The two sides have not broken off talks, but Tottenham are evaluating some alternatives, Sky indicates. They have shortlisted another Serie A center-back, Nikola Milenkovic. The Serbian international has just a year left on his deal with Fiorentina. He could leave for relatively cheap this summer. He is on Juventus’s radar if they sold Merih Demiral and Daniele Rugani.

Tottenham are also eyeing Kurt Zouma, who had a limited role last season at Chelsea. The Spurs and Atalanta are both pursuing Takehiro Tomiyasu, who can play in few different roles. However, Bologna are holding firm on their rich request.

The London-based club has already agreed on personal terms with Romero. They are hoping such aspect could make a difference in the negotiation. They remain confident in a positive outcome, but they will need to raise their offer, Tuttomercatoweb informs.

In the meantime, Atalanta have changed their mind on their new left-back. They were in advanced talks to sign Gianluca Frabotta on loan from Juventus. Instead, they will add Giuseppe Pezzella from Parma with a similar formula, but with a conditioned obligation to acquire him. He will back up Robin Gosens, as the Orobici have not received any strong proposal for their star, Il Giorno reports.
