Tottenham Strike Udinese Jackpot with Udogie Transfer

Tottenham Hotspur have secured their seventh summer signing with the onboarding of talented Udinese wingback Destiny Udogie. Antonio Conte is said to be a fan of the Italy U21 international. A host of clubs, including Brighton, Manchester City and Italian heavyweights Inter and Lazio, were interested in his signature. However, it was Juventus who looked to be frontrunners before Spurs swooped in.

The Hellas Verona youth product will be loaned back to Udinese for the 2022/23 campaign before joining the North London giants the next season. Spurs’ willingness to loan the 19-year-old back to Udine for the upcoming season is understood to be the dealbreaker. Also, the player had already revealed his dream destination to be the Premier League in a recent interview.

A deal amounting to €25M has been struck between the two parties, as per Calciomercato. All this emerges following the latest meeting between Spurs director Fabio Paratici and Udinese executive Giampaolo Pozzo, who is also the owner of Premier League outfit Watford.

Udogie joined Udinese from Verona on loan with an obligation to buy in July 2021. He ended his 2021/22 Udinese season with 5 goals and 4 assists from 37 appearances. The young talent is touted to be next in line in Roberto Mancini’s call-up for reinforcements on the left wing in the senior Italy side.

Our Take on Udogie’s transfer to Spurs

Destiny Udogie is one of Serie A’s brightest talents on the left wing. His prowess at just 19 is remarkable to see, and the decision to stay put in Udine for the upcoming season certainly arrives as a win-win situation for all parties involved. Conte and Spurs will get him in the summer of 2023, and one can only imagine the mercurial wingback’s development this coming season in Italy.
