Tottenham and Liverpool shared the points in a 2-2 thriller in Premier League action, as Andrew Robertson was dismissed in the second half just minutes after putting the Reds 2-1 ahead.
It was a fantastic spectacle in North London in the last Premier League fixture before Christmas that saw Harry Kane, Heung-Min Son, Diogo Jota and Robertson all get on the scoresheet. So, let’s get into our player ratings in what was a phenomenal display of action from start to finish.
Tottenham
Hugo Lloris – 7
Made a few decent saves in what was a busy evening for the Frenchman. Could not do much about the two goals that Spurs conceded.
Davinson Sanchez – 6.5
Won a few aerial balls and a few duels but it wasn’t the Colombian’s best performance here.
Eric Dier – 7
Looked solid at the back and launched a couple of good balls from deep to aid the Spurs counter-attacks.
Ben Davies – 6
Struggled at times in his unnatural position against a very talented Liverpool offense. A bit sloppy in possession and did not do too much of note in regards to his defending.
Emerson Royal – 7
Set up a good chance for Harry Kane just before the opening goal. Booked midway through the first half for a poor tackle on Sadio Mane who had got the better of him down the left flank for Liverpool. Managed to deal with the threat of Mane fairly well but Robertson did have joy down his flank.
Tanguy Ndombele – 6.5
Played a fantastic through ball into Harry Kane for the opening goal. Dispossessed in a key area of the midfield as Liverpool broke for a good opportunity but did battle well in midfield before being replaced by Oliver Skipp.
Harry Winks – 7
Encouraging performance by Winks and did well in the midfield battle, including an excellent tackle on Naby Keita in the build-up to Tottenham’s opening goal. Made a few interceptions in what was a difficult and open game for any midfielder.
Ryan Sessegnon – 6
Made a few good tackles but was also caught in possession a number of times. Did fairly well to nullify the threat of Mo Salah who had a quiet game but Alexander-Arnold was a threat down the flank.
Dele Alli – 7
Had a wonderful chance for Spurs to double their lead as Alisson made a superb save to did enough to deny him. Encouraging performance by Alli here in light of his recent troubles at Tottenham; worked hard and looked influential.
Heung-Min Son – 8
Had a couple of good chances in the opening stages but couldn’t make the most of them. Dangerous on the counter-attack throughout the match, utilising his speed. Set-up a glorious chance for Dele Alli in the first half. Found the equalizer to make it 2-2, making another excellent run in behind the Liverpool defense. Threatening throughout.
Harry Kane – 8
Scored the opening goal and looked a threat for Spurs early on, helping lead dangerous attacks on the counter and set up a couple of very good chances for Son. Had a plethora of chances throughout the match and should have scored more.
Substitutions
Oliver Skipp – N/A
Lucas Moura – N/A
Sergio Reguilon – N/A
Liverpool
Alisson – 7
Unusually busy evening for the Brazilian here as Liverpool really felt the absence of Virgil Van Dijk. Had to deal with plenty as Spurs created a handful of chances on the counter. Made a superb save to deny a great chance by Dele Alli in the first half. Would have a higher rating for his performance if it wasn’t for his error which allowed Son to make it 2-2.
Trent Alexander-Arnold – 8
Decent effort with his left foot early on which forced a save from Lloris. Involved in the opening stages and played a couple of good passes. Also had a great opportunity to put Liverpool in front towards the end of the first half, getting on the end of an excellent cross at the back post. One of the most influential players here in what was a very good performance.
Joel Matip – 6.5
Made a good run driving run forward in the early stages of the second half but did get caught in behind by Spurs too often.
Ibrahima Konate – 6.5
Made a good block to deny Harry Kane just before the opening goal. Perhaps could have got closer to Kane for the opening goal but looked more confident as the game progressed.
Andrew Robertson – 7.5
Had a great opportunity with a header in the opening stages and was heavily involved in the first half. Provided the assist for Liverpool’s equaliser with a fantastic drive into the box before clipping the ball into Jota. Was a threat throughout the match and also put Liverpool 2-1 up. However, was dismissed for a reckless challenge late on and so has been marked down.
Tyler Morton – 6
Played an enticing ball over the top for Mo Salah inside the opening five minutes which the Egyptian just couldn’t get on the end on. Booked for a clumsy challenge on Winks in the first half. Struggled a little with the pace of the Spurs counter-attacks in the midfield before being subbed off for Roberto Firmino on the hour mark.
Naby Keita – 7
Couple of good challenges in the midfield and looked sharp. Won the most duels in the match with 12.
James Milner – 7
Similarly to Keita, Milner battled well in the midfield and put in a pretty solid performance here. Also created a couple of chances for the Reds.
Mohamed Salah – 6.5
Was surprisingly quiet for Liverpool here, for his high standards. Still created three chances for his side but did not manage to have a single shot throughout the match.
Diogo Jota – 7
Equalised for Liverpool with a well-placed header past Lloris, making space in the box, despite being the smallest man. A part from the goal, the Portuguese forward was not involved too much.
Sadio Mane – 6.5
Influential down the left flank at times in the first half up against Emerson and was also the most fouled player in the match.
