Nicolas Gonzalez officially signed his Fiorentina extension on Tuesday, pushing the expiry date to 2028 and receiving a pay bump. He’s now among the highest earners at the club with a €2.5M salary plus add-ons. The winger waxed poetics about the club, the city, and the fans in his remarks after the signature (via Sky).
“I’m happy here, and I want to stay for a long time, even though it’s impossible to make promises in football. I can’t guarantee we’ll win a trophy, but it’d be wonderful. We reached two finals last season. Being handed the no.10 is a sign of trust, but no.9 is the most meaningful number inm my mind because it belonged to Gabriel Omar Batistuta. The coach and the president helped me a lot since I came here.”
According to Tuttomercatoweb, Fiorentina had the opportunity to sell Gonzalez for a hefty sum in the last two windows but didn’t pull the trigger.
In January 2023, Roberto De Zerbi’s Brighton offered €35M plus bonuses. Instead, Brentford put forth €45M last summer to lure the Argentine, but they were rebuffed too.

Our Take on Fiorentina and Gonzalez
The Viola inevitably need to keep ahold of their best player to take a step forward and erase the feeder team reputation. They turned down real money, but one has to wonder what would have happened if a top outfit came knocking.
