Two Serie A Coaches Already on the Hot Seat after Early Struggles

Leonardo Semplici and Fabrizio Castori are already under heavy scrutiny after just three Serie A rounds. Cagliari and Salernitana have struggled out of the gate, and the respective front offices are mulling an early coaching change, Tuttomercatoweb informs.

The Sardinians have collected one point thus far, tying 2-2 in the opener against Spezia. Milan pummeled them in the second bout. They frittered away a two-nothing lead at home versus Genoa Sunday as the Grifone mounted a glorious comeback.

Semplici took over from Eusebio Di Francesco at the midpoint of last season. He managed to secure the permanence in Serie A thanks to an impressive sprint in the final matches. He is under contract till June 2022. President Tommaso Giulini stated after the shocking loss: “The team is strong, and I will talk with the gaffer Monday morning.”

Salernitana have failed to pick up any point thus far. They came up short in a battle with Bologna in the first round, where they lost 2-3. Instead, Roma and Torino romped them in the following two contests. They gave up a total of eight goals, scoring none, in the two lopsided defeats. Castori has been at the helm since last August and led them to a surprising Serie A promotion in the past campaign.

According to the specialized site, Rolando Maran would be the early frontrunner if the management decided to make a switch. The veteran last coached Genoa, Cagliari and Chievo in his most recent Serie A stints. He got axed after 13 games in 2020-2021.
