As one of the three winless teams this Serie A season after nine matchdays, Udinese have struggled to get things rolling under coach Andrea Sottil. The 49-year-old has failed to inspire the Friulani despite the club investing in the transfer market over the summer, and the Pozzo family, led by chief Giampaolo Pozzo, is pondering a change in the dugout.
As per Calciomercato, the Udinese brass is scouring the market for replacements, shortlisting two names in the process. Luca Gotti, the former Spezia coach, has been taken into consideration alongside former Udinese manager Gabriele Cioffi. Both are now free agents after being released by Spezia and Hellas Verona respectively.
Sporting director Federico Balzaretti shared his thoughts before the 1-1 draw against Lecce, backing the club’s trust in Sottil. It is understood that the test against Lecce was one of the final straws for Udinese regarding Sottil’s presence in the dugout.
“We have great faith in him,” said Balzaretti, but the lack of results has certainly shone the spotlight on the manager for all the wrong reasons.
Udinese will travel to Monza next, before taking on Cagliari in the Coppa Italia second round. According to Gianluca Di Marzio, the management is in advanced talks to bring Cioffi back.
