Inter have been tipped to pursue Jaka Bijol, but they’ll eventually have a chance to get him only next summer, as Udinese have no plans to part ways with a center-piece midway through the season. Their director Gianluca Nani addressed the situation to Messaggero Veneto.
“You can’t sell a player of his caliber in January. Therefore, the Nerazzurri will have to wait if they really want him. It was very easy to keep him last summer because we considered him a lot stronger than the offers that arrived. He belongs to a top club, either in the Premier League or in the upper echelon in Serie A. He’s a great leader and fully embraced our projects because he’s comfortable with us.”
Inter were attached to Bijol last summer already, but Udinese refused to consider his sale.
“We never truly weighed any bid for him even for a minute. The same thing happened with Lorenzo Lucca and Florian Thauvin. We took them off the market technically and mentally. That was the case also for Thomas Kristensen.”
While Udinese rebuffed the advances for Bijol, they did part ways with a defensive staple, Nehuen Perez.
“It wasn’t a departure we conceived in advance, nor it was particularly advantageous from an economic standpoint. We could have waited a year. However, when a player like him, who gave us a lot, insistently says that he wants to go, then it was right to let him depart.”
