Destiny Udogie has more than held his own in his first few Premier League appearances, completing the move with a one-year delay since Tottenham allowed him to spend an extra season at Udinese on loan. His agent Stefano Antonelli disclosed some backstories about his previous transfers to Tuttomercatoweb.
“If there’s a limit Italian teams are unable to overcome, it’s the courage to invest. I dare everybody to indicate a side that didn’t want him. Everybody did. However, the only one that accelerated at the time was Gino Pozzo’s Udinese.”
The Friulani onboarded Udogie from Verona after he had made just a handful of Serie A appearances.
“They signed him for €2.8M and sold him for €26M ten months later. Considering what he’s doing, he doesn’t really have a price tag right now. We talked with Juventus, Milan, and Inter. But they didn’t have the impetus to complete the operation.”
“Not spending on Italian players is a cliché, and it happened with Udogie as well.”
The fullback has appeared ten times with Tottenham so far, registering two assists. He was surprisingly not called up for the final European qualifiers, but the reason was merely physical, as he’s nursing a muscular injury. After initially selecting just Federico Dimarco and Andrea Cambiaso, Luciano Spalletti added Manuel Lazzari and Cristiano Biraghi to the roster to have more options on the defensive wings.
