Samuel Umtiti: Barcelona Worried About Lack of Playing Time

There is concern from Barcelona about the lack of playing time by loanee Samuel Umtiti. The Frenchman has yet to see the field for Lecce since joining I Giallorossi over the summer from the Catalans. Currently Marin Pongrancic and Federico Baschirotto are the preferred center backs for Lecce, with Umtiti sitting on the bench through the six games since he has been at the club.

According to Calciomercato, Barcelona wished to see the 31-time French international on the pitch more consistently. However, with Umtiti having not seen the field for Lecce, there is some concern from Barca.

Lecce has one win from their eight Serie A matches. Only Cremonese and Sampdoria have scored less goals than last season’s Serie B winners. While there has not been any serious talk about coach Marco Baroni getting sacked, things will have to turn around quickly for the club.

As for Umtiti, he will have work his way into the team. The loan is only for one season with no option to buy. Maybe given the situation he finds himself in, that is not necessarily a bad thing.
