Inter outcast Robin Gosens has drawn the attention of the newly-found Bundesliga supreme power Union Berlin. As per German journalist Florian Plettenberg, the attacking-minded left-back is willing to stay at Giuseppe Meazza unless told otherwise.
After securing Champions League qualification for the first time in the club’s history, Union Berlin are understandably eager to strengthen their ranks this summer. Manager Urs Fischer hasn’t overseen many big-money deals at the Stadion An der Alten Forsterei, but the circumstances have changed.
With the incentive of Europe’s most prestigious club competition on the table, Die Eisernen may lure more attractive names to Berlin this summer. Aware that Champions League football could be a game-changer, they’ve set their sights on one of their own – Gosens, who has had a hard time at Inter since moving in from Atalanta in January 2022.
Following his rise to stardom in Bergamo, the 28-year-old joined Simone Inzaghi’s troops with high hopes. However, nothing has gone his way at Meazza. Recurring injury problems, coupled with the emergence of Federico Dimarco, have pushed the German to the margins. He only made 11 Serie A starts last season, hence the club’s bid to shift his salary off the books.
Indeed, Inter are ready to entertain offers for Gosens. But he won’t go unless someone tables a bid of at least €15m. It may take up to €20m to price him away from the Nerazzurri, but it’s a figure Union Berlin seem ready to pay to get the deal over the line. Convincing the player to walk away could be a tricky part, though.
Gosens is reportedly happy with his current status at Inter. He’s unwilling to move unless the Italians press an issue. Given the club’s precarious financial state, it’s likely they’ll need to offload some of the deadwood in the coming months.
Unfortunately for Gosens, he’s among the select group of players that might be forced to wave goodbye to Inter by the end of the summer transfer window.
