Manchester United in Pole Position to Sign Min-jae

A little more than a week ago, representatives of Kim Min-jae shrugged reports of Manchester United closing in on the South Korean defender. With the Red Devils now having qualified for the UEFA Champions League next season, after their 4-1 win over Chelsea, the links seem to get stronger than ever, as Napoli prepare to lose their star stopper.

According to latest reports emerging out of Italy (via Il Mattino), Manchester United are on the brink of signing Kim Min-jae for north of the €50M mark, taking advantage of the defender’s affordable release clause that activates for the first two weeks of July. Min-jae is reportedly ready to fly out to Manchester once the summer transfer window opens and the season draws to an end.

Napoli are concerned about the ‘low’ fee that will trigger the transfer, and instead want Min-jae to sign an extension before the release clause in his current deal kicks in.

The 26-year-old’s excellent performances mean Napoli will be losing the player for nearly half his present value, despite his contract expiring only in the summer of 2025. However, it is understood that the club has already given up hope of retaining his services.

Min-jae joined Napoli from Fenerbahce for a steal-deal of €18M. The Partenopei have identified Atalanta prodigy Giorgio Scalvini as his direct replacement.
