Uruguay starlet Agustin Alvarez, who has agreed to a five-year contract with Sassuolo, has landed in Italy and is expectedly excited about his new journey in Serie A. The 21-year-old Penarol youth product arrived from Montevideo after a long flight and expressed his enthusiasm at Milan’s Malpensa airport, where he was greeted by journalists (via Sky).

“I’m ready and very motivated. I’m prepared and give everything for the team.”
When quizzed about why he chose Sassuolo over other prospective clubs, including Southampton and Bayer Leverkusen, Alvarez pointed out that the Neroverdi are a perfect spot to continue developing.
“I think they are a good team, ideal for my young age, to grow. I chose them because I liked the club and because I think they suit the way I play.”
The official announcement and reveal as a Sassuolo player will take place a bit later, before which Alvarez will first undergo medical examinations and resolve his terms of contract.

CEO Carnevali also expressed his joy at onboarding the highly-rated striker, who once upon a time was also hunted by Milan, Fiorentina and Inter (via Sassuolo News).
“We will welcome him very gladly. An important player, he will be definitely be an extra weapon for now.”
Nicknamed El Canario, Alvarez will move for €11M plus €2M in bonuses based on performances. His former team will also receive 20 percent of a future sale. He has logged 34 goals in 90 caps for Penarol since making his professional senior debut in 2020.
