For the fifth time in six days, a World Cup encounter ended in a stalemate. It certainly wasn’t what we, the viewers, were hoping for, nor the fans in attendance who were clearly heard booing by the final whistle. Nonetheless, both sets of players seemed to be satisfied with the result. The Three Lions maintained their lead on top of Group B, while the Americans remain undefeated and can earn their ticket to the next round with a win over Iran. So here are our player ratings for USA who came close but not close enough in their goalless draw against England.
USA (4-3-3)
Matt Turner – 6.5
The USMNT goalkeeper didn’t have an awful lot to do in the match, but did well to save Mason Mount’s low drive.
Sergino Dest – 7
A vibrant display from the Milan fullback who caused havoc on the right flank every time he trotted forward.
Walker Zimmerman – 6.5
A solid outing from the defender who did really well in his duels against Harry Kane and company. But perhaps he needs to work on his distribution from the back.
Tim Ream – 7
The Fulham veteran was the commander in chief at the back. Held his line together and gave absolutely nothing away for the opposition.
Antonee Robinson – 6
The left-back managed to limit Bukayo Saka’s threat on the wing, but he offered very little on the attacking phase, especially when compared to Dest.
Weston McKennie – 6.5
The Juventus man could be spotted all over the pitch. It was a vibrant display from the 24-year-old who displayed flashes of skills, but will be kicking himself for wasting a sitter early in the match.
Tyler Adams – 7
A stupendous performance from the central midfielder who sat deep and orchestrated the play for USA. Retrieved the ball on countless occasions and proved to be a major problem for the English.
Yunus Musah – 6
An energetic display from the Valencia youngster who ran hard from start to finish. Surely one for the future.
Timothy Weah – 5.5
The Lille star couldn’t replicate his Wales exploits against England. Worked hard when off the ball, but couldn’t find a way past the defensive line.
Haji Wright – 5
The American striker was isolated for the most part and warded off by John Stones and Harry Maguire rather easily.
Christian Pulisic – 7
A lively display from the Chelsea wantaway who entered the match with a chip on his shoulder. Had the best chance of the match when his shot crashed against the woodwork and was easily the most dangerous player for USA from start to finish.
