Vecino Blames Inzaghi for Inter Exit, Praises Sarri

Lazio opened their European account with an impressive 4-2 victory over last year’s Conference League finalists Feyenoord in the UEFA Europa League. Matias Vecino, one of Lazio’s two Bosman signings – alongside Alessio Romagnoli – put in a Man of the Match performance with two goals and an assist.

Vecino has spoken out (via FCInter1908) regarding his exclusion from Simone Inzaghi’s plans for the previous and current season, forcing him to leave Inter on a free transfer.

“What has been missing in the last two years? In Antonio Conte’s final campaign I was out for seven/eight months, when you come back it is normal to be missing something, then the team that was fighting for the top places and it was difficult for me to find space. I played in the last few games, then I went to the national team and I had good Copa America. The last year I stayed because of decision by Inzaghi, who wanted me. He told me I would be an important player, then in the end none of this happened.”

Vecino praised his current coach Maurizio Sarri for instilling his confidence back.

“Surely when you have the trust of a coach everything is easier, it makes you feel important, it gives you the opportunity to re-gain conditioning and rhythm, which was what I needed.”

The Uruguayan further went on to praise the veteran gaffer and mentioned his hunger for success.

“I think I showed it in recent years when I starred for the national team, where I featured almost all the time. Unfortunately I haven’t been able to do it recently at Inter. Now I think I have all the possibilities to do it, I feel good physically and mentally, I have a lot of desire and hunger. I repeat, having a coach who values me, as it’s case now, is very important to me.”

The 31-year-old is slowly being introduced into the Biancocelesti first team by Sarri, mostly due to his lack of game time in recent seasons. His display against Feyenoord was his by far his best display till date in the sky blue colors.
