Venezia are back to Serie A after two seasons. At the Pier Luigi Penzo Stadium, the Lagunari edged past Cremonese in the second leg of the Serie B Playoffs Final to secure a spot in the top-flight for next season.
After tying 0-0 in the reverse fixture, Venezia needed one draw to be promoted as they finished ahead of the Grigiorossi in the Serie B regular season. Cremonese, on the other hand, were forced to win.
But Stefano Vanoli’s side preferred not to run any risk as they opened the scoring with a Christian Gytkjaer strike after 24 minutes and remained in control for the rest of the game.
Venezia are the third club to be promoted to Serie A, joining Parma and Como who had already gained direct access to the Italian football’s elite division at the end of the regular season.
