Verona Forestall Atalanta Advances for Center-Back Hien

Sweden-born Ghanian defender Isak Hien was tracked by Atalanta at the start of the window, but La Dea failed to come to an agreement with Hellas Verona on a transfer fee and instead chose to focus their attention on Torino’s Alessandro Buongiorno. However, with that collapsed, as only Brandon Soppy and Duvan Zapata will switch sides, Atalanta back into the race for Hien.

A personal agreement was struck between Hien and Atalanta back then, and the Bergamo outfit seek to carry it forward into something concrete with the Venetians.

According to Tuttomercatoweb, Atalanta were turned down after they offered €12M as an initial bid. The Gialloblù, who have also received interest from fellow Serie A side Torino and Ligue 1 outfit Strasbourg, demand at least €15M plus bonuses and add-ons to fall into their coffers.

Hien is under contract with Hellas Verona until June 2026, taking advantage of which the Venetians have increased their asking price by €5M as the transfer window comes to a close.

The 24-year-old played a significant part of Verona’s set-up in 2022/23, as he racked up 32 league appearances and helped the club avoid relegation to the second tier.

Hien was been earmarked by Atalanta in view of next season’s UEFA Europa Conference League journey by Gian Piero Gasperini. However, with Giorgio Scalvini set to stay, the urgency of signing Hien may not be grave after all.
