Verona Officially Hire Igor Tudor after Sacking Eusebio Di Francesco

The Eusebio Di Francesco era in Verona is over after just three matches. The Scaligeri pulled the trigger right away after Monday’s loss to Bologna. Despite showing some fight, Sassuolo and Inter also defeated them in the first two contes. The front office chose Igor Tudor as the next coach.

It is the fourth straight firing for Di Francesco, whose downward spiral continues following his Roma days. He had done poorly at Sampdoria and Cagliari as well in the last two seasons. The coach is in the midst of an incredible losing streak, which continued in Verona. His last win dates back to November 2020. He dropped 23 of the past 33 games, 70 percent. He once made it to the Champions League semifinal with the Giallorossi, but his style of football has not worked with the minnows.

Verona managed to get their first choice for the job. Tudor successfully negotiated his release from the contract with Juventus and penned a two-year deal. He was Andrea Pirlo’s top assistant in the past campaign. At one point, he was poised to take over the Bianconeri, which caused frictions inside the staff.

Tudor previously managed Udinese in two separate stints. The Friulani appointed him in April 2018 after the ousting of Massimo Oddo, and he avoided the drop. However, they did not confirm on the bench the following season. He returned in March 2019, again clinching the permanence in Serie A. They eventually fired him in November after a slow start. He has had decent success abroad, guiding Hajduk Split twice, PAOK, Karabukspor, and Galatasary.
