Lazio are expected to bolster their midfield prowess, especially considering the potential departures of main talismen Sergej Milinkovic-Savic and Luis Alberto, and have started eyeing Denis Suarez. Coach Maurizio Sarri and sporting director Igli Tare have long made it clear regarding the club’s intention of paving the way in the transfer market.
According to Radiosei (via La Lazio Siamo Noi), the Celta Vigo attacking midfielder has attracted the interest of the Lazio management. Having been linked in the past with Sevilla, Villarreal, Arsenal, and Barcelona, the Biancocelesti have made headway in terms of negotiations as they already opened initial contacts.
With his contract expiring only in the summer of 2024, the Spanish club has the leverage of demanding an asking price – quite possibly in the range of €10M. The Biancocelesti are expected to hand a contract until 2027, a five-year deal that could garner the player’s attention. However, the Italians want a discount on the transfer price, preferably by a couple of million euros. A loan deal is off the cards for Celta Vigo, who would rather prefer a direct sale.
Our Take on Suarez Links to Lazio
Suarez has offered consistent displays for Celta Vigo since joining from Barcelona in 2019/20 and is the kind of player who would seamlessly fit into Lazio and Sarri’s style of play. He is capable of functioning on either wing, as a playmaker, and also upfront as a second striker. His versatility makes him an unpredictable attacker – something that could offer an edge to the Biancocelesti in the final-third next season.
