Volpato Reveals Decision Against Starring for Australia at World Cup

Roma are currently carrying out their training in Japan, with the Giallorossi scheduled to take on Nagoya tomorrow before playing Yokohama three days later in two friendlies. Youngster Cristian Volpato is expected to star in both the matches.

Speaking at a press conference (via Voce Giallorossa) from Tokyo, Volpato had some interesting comments to make, including about his future with the Italy national team.

“I want to work hard during this time and train to get back to January.”

He decided against opting to play for Australia at the FIFA World Cup 2022, despite being called up to the national team by manager Graham Arnold.

“Obviously I would have liked to play the World Cup, but not right now. Then as you know I am half Italian and I feel more Italian,” he revealed.

Volpato then revealed why he chose Italy, which was more or less an obvious decision going forward in his career.

“For football. I was playing in Australia and the option was to stay in the second division or try in Italy”

The Australian-born Roma attacker has 2 goals in 10 appearances for the club since making his debut last season.
