It’s no secret that Milan are in the market for a new right-back and that Tottenham Hotspur defender Emerson Royal is among the names considered by the San Siro hierarchy. Fabrizio Romano claims that the Brazilian, heavily linked with a summer departure from North London, has his heart set on joining the Rossoneri.
Milan are determined to reinforce the right flank as captain Davide Calabria failed to live up to expectations in 2023/24. In addition to Emerson, they’ve identified Lille’s Tiago Santos as a potential addition, particularly in light of Paulo Fonseca’s impending arrival.
Emerson would be a more eye-catching option. Before teaming up with Tottenham in 2021 for a reported £25.8 million transfer fee, he plied his trade at Barcelona. However, the Milan target’s career in the Premier League hasn’t panned out well. It’s not entirely the 25-year-old’s fault.
Pedro Porro’s outstanding form has nailed Emerson to the bench, and he’s now convinced he must leave Tottenham to secure regular first-team football. Milan will offer him a soft landing spot in Lombardy if Spurs are willing to negotiate a deal on favorable terms.
That’s where the player’s wish could come into play.
Meanwhile, Romano’s report goes on to say Milan are currently focused on luring Joshua Zirkzee away from Bologna. The Italian journalist’s update comes shortly after the Rossoneri reportedly made contact with Chelsea to discuss a potential loan move for Romelu Lukaku.
With the Blues preferring an outright sale, Milan will probably choose to concentrate on other targets, including Zirkzee.
