The Partenopei are the only seeded team from Italy going into the last 16, finishing top of Group A with 15 points, ahead of the Reds only on goal difference.

Inter had already confirmed their qualification before kick-off against Bayern Munich, knocking Spanish heavyweights Barcelona out of the tournament and into the UEFA Europa League.
