Why Milan Reportedly Decided to Send Kalulu to Juventus

Pierre Kalulu is not yet poised for medicals for Juventus as he continues to ponder his Milan exit. Coach Thiago Motta had a phone call with the player to explain his plans. Instead, all has been settled between the two clubs, Sky informs (via Fantacalcio).

According to Tuttomercatoweb, the Rossoneri believe to be set in the back with the signings of Strahinja Pavlovic and Emerson Royal. They have three other center-backs and opted to bring in a more offensive-minded player on the wing. Newcastle United didn’t table a large bid for Malick Thiaw.

Moreover, the Kalulu deal will be profitable financially for Milan even if Juventus don’t redeem him. The fee for the loan, €3M, already represents a ‘plusvalenza’ on its own since they onboarded him almost for free. In the end, it could be a €20M income for somebody who played just 11 times last season.

The fact that he joined the team under the previous Paolo Maldini-led management is also a factor. The Rossoneri would have issues with the UEFA list if they don’t part ways with one man in the back.

Our Take on Kalulu, Milan, and Juventus

He should accept unless there’s another team looming with a more secure starting job. Showcasing three young defenders who need to play regularly to grow would have been tough, especially with Fikayo Tomori holding down one spot regularly. Without a giant bid for Thiaw, the sale of the Frenchman was the most logical one. The root of the problem is whether they could have gotten more money and right away from other sides without solving an issue to a contender and potentially fortifying it.
