Barcelona Manager Xavi Hands Escape Route to Juventus Striker

Juventus striker Alvaro Morata, who is currently on loan from Atletico Madrid, has appeared in the limelight as Xavi Hernandez’s choice of reinforcement in the frontline. The Barcelona coach is said have contacted the player and his entourage as the Blaugrana look to incorporate him as their second signing of the winter market, after Manchester City forward Ferran Torres.

According to reports from AS, Morata is the number one candidate to fill the center forward role at Barcelona this season. The negotiations have already reached an advanced stage between Morata and his agent Juanma Lopez, although talks are yet to resume between Barcelona, Atletico and Juventus.

Barcelona are interested in an initial six-month loan move with an obligation/option to buy deal. Also, the 29-year-old will be required to reduce his wages in order to comply with Financial Fair Play regulations that have haunted Barcelona in recent memory.

The Real Madrid youth product’s potential departure from Turin will put Juventus in a position to hunt for a pure center-forward with little time in the four-week transfer window.

Morata has appeared regularly for Juventus this season, although there are reports of a fallout between the player and manager Max Allegri after the touchline row between the duo during the Bianconeri’s 2-0 win over Genoa this month. He has 7 goals and 3 assists in 23 caps this season across all competitions.
