Xavi’s Three Words That Convinced Kessie to Join Barcelona

Franck Kessie’s departure has accelerated Milan’s stance in the transfer market, as they continue their search for a defensive midfielder in the heart of the team. The Ivorian left the Rossoneri after five years upon the expiry of his contract, deciding to join Barcelona on a free transfer, and one of the main reasons is club legend Xavi Hernandez.

The Blaugrana manager managed to convince the ex-Atalanta center-half of his potential importance to the Spanish side with just one phone call – something the Milan faithful didn’t take lightly.

As per reports from Mundo Deportivo (via MilanNews), negotiations between Xavi and Kessie went butter smooth, as the coach made the most of a short interaction during which he told him: “I need you.”

During the call, Xavi pitched Barcelona’s season project and the tactical outset the Scudetto winner would be part of. Kessie reportedly agreed to joining the Spaniards almost immediately after the conversation.

He will most likely be used in a defensive role behind creative talents Pedri and Gavi – a role fellow Ivorian Yaya Toure used to don behind Andres Iniesta and Xavi himself.

The 25-year-old leaves San Siro after five successful years, registering 39 goals in 224 appearances.
