Zanetti Backs Daniel Maldini to Shine on Loan at Empoli

Italian tactician Paolo Zanetti is backing Milan loanee Daniel Maldini to shine with Empoli. The Azzurri manager is busy evaluating his slightly new-look squad following the departure of starlet Fabiano Parisi to Fiorentina, as he prepares to welcome his direct replacement Giuseppe Pezzella from Parma.

Speaking to La Gazzetta dello Sport (via Tuttomercatoweb), Zanetti also shed light on three of his side’s budding youngsters to further develop at Empoli.

“I’m keeping close tabs on Baldanzi and Fazzini because they will stay with us, at least I hope so, and they haven’t completed yet their path. This year for them must be the year of maturation and consecration. Guarino is also there, who did very well with the U20 team at the World Cup and will follow the path of growth.”

Zanetti welcomes Maldini after the playmaker spent a year developing in Spezia. Milan believe another year on loan will make the 21-year-old first-team ready.

“We signed a player like Daniel Maldini. We’re betting a lot on him, we believe in him, because he’s a very talented boy and we’re convinced that he has arrived in the right environment to demonstrate what he can do.”

Zanetti will lead Empoli for a second consecutive season following a shaky debut campaign in Tuscany which saw his side finish in 14th position.
