Zanetti on Lautaro Links with Real Madrid and Messi

With Real Madrid on the verge of losing Karim Benzema to a big money move to Saudi Arabia, the club are on the hunt for reinforcements upfront. Among many names has emerged Lautaro Martinez – the Inter marksman who has punched above his weight in recent Nerazzurri successes. However, Inter vice-president Javier Zanetti is not worried about losing Il Toro.

Zanetti spoke to Tyc Sport (via FCInterNews) and shed light on Martinez’s future.

“He has an impressive mentality, he is respected on and off the pitch. Future? I’m calm because I see him happy with us. I’m not worried because I see what he represents and how he is. We couldn’t think of anything about the possibility that Real Madrid want him.”

The Argentine legend also discussed the possibility of bringing Lionel Messi to San Siro.

“Financial fair play complicates things. Today Inter are doing things right, they are pursuing a sporting and economic project in line with what they can spend. Who wouldn’t like to have Messi? But we can’t buy him. Everyone loves him Messi, but there are very few who can afford it. Rightly so for what it represents and for what it’s worth: we’re talking about the last world champion and today he’s not part of our project.”

The club are in turn targeting another Los Blancos player in Nacho Hernandez.

Inter will play Manchester City in the UEFA Champions League final on June 10 in Istanbul, as Zanetti aims to see his club lift the continental championship for the first time since he captained Jose Mourinho’s side to victory in the historic treble-winning season.
