Zaniolo Agent Clarifies State of Extension Talks with Roma

Roma have not made progress on the new contract of Nicolò Zaniolo. However, that is not an issue according to his agent. The representative stated that the attacker has no problem waiting to discuss a new deal.

Claudio Vigorelli addressed the matter to Corriere dello Sport: “There is no ongoing negotiation with the Giallorossi about an extension. He is fully focused on finishing the season in the best possible way and on playing the next European Conference League matches with maximum effort and determination. Moreover, the upcoming games with Italy have the crucial objective of qualifying for the next World Cup. Therefore, any reference to the talks between the club and us is baseless.”

The agent weighed in to dismiss rumors indicating that a recent meeting between Roma and the entourage of Zaniolo went poorly, fueling the buzz about his departure. The Giallorossi do not necessarily need to prolong the deal of their star. His current one expires in 2024. On the other hand, it would give them more leverage to resist the offers in the next window.

Juventus, in particular, are watching the situation very attentively. According to Tuttosport, the 22-year-old is one of their main targets. As things stand, his price tag would not be too conspicuous considering his contractual situation. The Bianconeri could offer Weston McKennie to Roma, which have an American ownership, as a partial makeweight to sweeten the pot. Tottenham and other foreign sides would also be in the mix if he was available in the summer.
