Zapata Dishes on Subpar Season, Hojlund and His Future

Duvan Zapata returned from his latest injury setback versus Napoli and will try to turn his season around in the final 12 matches. He spoke about his underwhelming campaign to La Gazzetta dello Sport.

“I need continuity, instead the physical problems didn’t let me have it. I feel strong but, each time I get hurt, I need a while to get back into shape.”

The Colombian has bagged just one goal so far.

“If I think about it, I struggle to believe it myself. Unfortunately, that’s reality. However, I’m focusing more on my health than on scoring. The rest will come naturally.”

Zapata talked about the dualism with Rasmus Hojlund.

“I’ve always had a competitor. In the past, Luis Muriel always scored when replacing me. The only thing that changed is that there’s a center-forward who’s more similar to me. I didn’t know him and didn’t expect him to be so quick. It’s very noticeable in practice. We can surely play together, as we just have to follow the instructions.”

The striker had a good game versus Napoli.

“I’d like to build from it since it was maybe my best one this season. I need to leave everything behind. Atalanta missed me in the same way I missed them. We just need to get out of this slump, starting Friday versus Empoli. We don’t see home games as taboo despite the poor results. It’s always nice to play in front our crowd.”

Zapata set the goal for La Dea and weighed in on his future.

“We hope to finish in the top seven and play in Europe. It’s up to us. I’m great here, even though the rumors send me elsewhere in every window.”
