Inter & Marseille Negotiating Young Forward’s Loan Termination

Valentin Carboni was supposed to make a name for himself in European football when he swapped Inter for Marseille in the summer. The reigning Serie A title holders loaned out the prodigious forward to the Stade Velodrome after Simone Inzaghi deemed him surplus to requirements.

However, less than two months into his Ligue 1 experience, the 19-year-old could return to Inter, per Foot Mercato. Despite his relatively sparse playing time at Marseille, Carboni has received an unlikely international call-up from Argentina manager Lionel Scaloni for the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers against Venezuela and Bolivia.

Unfortunately for the Inter starlet, he picked up a season-ending injury during international duty. Carboni has reportedly sustained an ACL injury and will have to undergo surgery. Facing a long-term spell on the sidelines, he could return to Inter in the coming weeks for proper treatment.

Indeed, Marseille and Inter have already opened discussions over the loan termination. Les Olympiens signed Carboni on a season-long deal with an option to buy him permanently for €40 million next summer. But, the French club cannot wait until the end of the season for the young Argentine to return to action.

Carboni struggled with a muscular problem in the summer. After returning to full fitness, he made his first league start for Marseille on the stroke of October’s international break as Roberto De Zerbi’s side drew 1-1 with rock-bottom Angers on home turf.

That could turn out to be his last appearance for the Ligue 1 outfit, with an immediate return to Inter emerging as a distinct possibility.
