Lazio have found the midfielder they were looking for in Bundesliga, as they are in advanced talks to onboard Djibril Sow from Eintracht Frankfurt. Torino rebuffed them again for Samuele Ricci, so they pivoted toward a new target, Il Messaggero reports.
The two clubs are ironing out the final details of the deal, but there shouldn’t be hiccups. The Biancocelesti will spend around €15M. Instead, the player will ink a five-year contract and earn €2M net plus add-ons.
Lazio bested West Ham and Sevilla in the race to acquire Sow. He has played both as a deep-lying playmaker and a box-to-box during his time in the Bundesliga, scoring 7 times and providing 8 assists in 144 matches.
The 26-year-old has 38 caps with his national team to his name. He moved to Germany in 2019 for €14M after breaking out with Young Boys. He has made nearly 40 appearances in the continental cups.
Our Take on Lazio and Sow
It’s a nice compromise between a starlet and a veteran as, if things go well, he’ll hold down the fort for multiple years. They needed physicality after the departure of Sergej Milinkovic-Savic. He’s more likely to play as the anchor of the midfield than in a dynamic role, but that’ll be clearer once Maurizio Sarri takes a close look at him.
