Milan Show Interest in Underutilized Barcelona Loanee

Milan have added a new name to their list of targets to replenish their defense in January, Clement Lenglet, who’s currently on loan from Barcelona to Aston Villa. The Rossoneri need reinforcements having lost Malick Thiaw and Pierre Kalulu to serious thigh injuries, La Gazzetta dello Sport informs.

The Frenchman had already landed on their radar in the past before he transferred to Tottenham. He departed temporarily again last summer, this time moving to Birmingham. He has struggled to find minutes, appearing only five times in the European Conference League.

Milan will probe whether they could get Lenglet from Barcelona with the same formula. Their favorite option for the role is Jakub Kiwior, but Arsenal don’t want to let him go even though he’s not a starter.

The Rossoneri are also in touch with Villarreal to terminate the loan spell of Matteo Gabbia early, thus bringing him back in the upcoming window.

Our Take on Milan and Lenglet

The demotion to the Europa League won’t alter their plans, as they’ll still be busy in the second half of the season, and another defender is necessary. They could have skated by if they were eliminated from Europe altogether. They are right in going after a band-aid, as the injuries suffered by their two youngsters aren’t season-ending. He’s way more established than Gabbia, but also more expensive salary-wise. He’s not playing much, but convincing two clubs isn’t the easiest proposition.
