Mourinho Launches into Tirade Against Referee Chiffi

José Mourinho made it clear that he didn’t like how referee Daniele Chiffi officiated the game against Monza, which added to previous episodes that went against the Giallorossi in the past. The Special One sounded off in his post-game remarks to various outlets (via Virgilio).

“He’s the worst referee I’ve ever encountered in my career. He didn’t influence the result, but he’s poor and horrible technically, he lacks empathy and doesn’t establish a rapport with anybody. Zeki Celik was sent off at the 96th because he slipped as he was gassed.”

Mourinho pointed his finger at the club too.

“Roma don’t have the same strength as other teams to make it known that they don’t want certain officials. At times, it feels like we don’t even bother. We have to grow from such perspective as well. I stopped working in the final 20 minutes because I knew I would get expelled. It always happens with Chiffi.”

The Portuguese gaffer resorted to an unusual move.

“I had a recorder to protect myself. Anyway, I stayed silent because I wanted to be close to my players Saturday against a super team like Inter. That’s why I left early. I didn’t want to even look at him.”

Mourinho praised his squad for its effort given the circumstances.

“They gave everything they had. We have players that are getting minutes but don’t yet have the quality to be at this level. The bench is basically non-existent. They were prideful, and that’s why I will support them until the very last minute of this season.”
