Does Conte Regret Departing Serie A Champions Inter?

Following Inter’s Serie A winning-campaign last season, Antonio Conte made a bold decision to depart the club as he felt the board was not aligned with his current aspirations.

However, it seems that the Italian tactician is experiencing a bitter after-taste following his shocking move away from the San Siro and may regret leaving the Nerazzurri as he is currently unhappy at his new club Tottenham.

Life in North-London started off brilliantly for Conte as he took the club by storm at the helm and managed to go seven games unbeaten within the Premier League. He demonstrated determination as he managed to rejuvenate Harry Kane throughout the second half of the season and implemented his renowned 3-4-3 formation, which seemed to compliment his players really well.

However, the Italian tactician’s success at Tottenham seems to be short-lived as Conte’s men are currently within a slump as they only won one game out of their past five games across all competitions. Despite their brilliant 3-2 comeback against Manchester City at the Etihad Stadium, Tottenham have taken shocking defeats to the likes of Southampton, Wolverhampton, and Burnley.

Although the board permitted Conte to complete the sensational Juventus double-swoop of Dejan Kulusevski and Rodrigo Bentacur, it seems that the gaffer was promised more by the club prior to signing with the Premier League giants.

Following Tottenham’s recent 1-0 defeat to Burnley, Conte spoke to NBC Sports and expressed his frustration regarding the current situation at the club:

“It is a difficult night. In the last five games we lost four. It means there will be an assessment about the club, about me. Because I think for me it is very frustrating to lose four games in the last five. The situation is this. The situation speaks clear. I am really sorry for the fans. They don’t deserve this. When you lose four in the last five games you have to make an assessment, the club has to, to speak together and to understand which is the best solution.

“The situation, the players are always the same. This club changes coaches but the players remain the same. But the result doesn’t change. I repeat, I am too honest to answer this type of situation. For sure we will make an assessment with the club because it is not right. It is not good for anybody to continue to lose. I can’t accept this. It is not good for no one.”

While it is still too soon to determine how this situation will unravel, it could be that the return of Antonio Conte to the Serie A can occur sooner than expected as the likes of Mourinho, Sarri, and Allegri are all currently struggling and facing an immense amount of pressure at their current clubs regarding their futures.
