Saturday was an important day for Milan as Mike Maignan, Theo Hernandez, and Tijjani Reijnders returned to the fold after being granted extended holidays. Italian publication Calciomercato details how the Serie A runners-up prepare to accelerate extension talks with the household French duo.
All three players featured in the EURO 2024 semi-finals with France and the Netherlands, respectively. Milan gave them an extra rest period to recharge after an exhausting season. But vacation is over. The standout trident trained separately from the group and will soon begin preparations under new manager Paulo Fonseca.
With Milan currently in the United States for a pre-season tour, Maignan, Hernandez, and Reijnders will continue to work alone at the Milanello training ground. However, as soon as the team returns to Italy, negotiations over the former duo’s contract renewals could pick up momentum.
As recently reiterated by Zlatan Ibrahimovic, Milan are hellbent on keeping hold of their crucial first-team components.
“Theo, Leao, and Maignan are happy to stay with us because they are among the strongest in the world in their roles. We don’t need to sell,” the Milan executive said a few weeks ago.
Maignan and Hernandez have caught the attention of numerous top European clubs. But they’ve been the two pillars upon which Rossoneri’s success in the past few years rested, and Milan cannot afford to let them go under any circumstances.
Davide Calabria, on the other hand, isn’t untouchable. Despite wearing the captain’s armband, the homegrown Milan star may depart San Siro this summer, though he’s determined to impress Fonseca.
