Genoa In Talks with Marseille to Sign Gudmundsson’s Replacement

Genoa and Olympique Marseille could soon complete another deal after the Griffins earmarked Amin Harit as an ideal replacement for outgoing Albert Gudmundsson. According to Sky Sport Italia journalist Gianluca Di Marzio, negotiations between the two clubs are underway, with Alberto Gilardino’s side vying for a loan with an option to buy formula.
No strangers to doing business, Genoa and Marseille have brokered a couple of deals in the past 12 months. The Griffins brought Ruslan Malinovskyi back to Serie A from the Stade Velodrome upon their top-flight return last summer. Six months later, they offered out-of-favor Portuguese forward Vitinha a way out of France.
Harit could be the next coup. Pushed to the fringes of Roberto De Zerbi’s squad amid Marseille’s proactive approach in the transfer window, Harit could reunite with Malinovskyi and Vitinha at the Stadio Luigi Ferraris. Genoa manager Alberto Gilardino wants the Morocco international to take Gudmundsson’s place in attack.
The 27-year-old Icelandic star is on the verge of joining Fiorentina on loan with an obligation to buy set at €30 million. Gudmundsson’s exit will leave a massive hole in the attacking department, with Genoa turning to Harit to fill the void. In addition to Gudmundsson’s impending departure, Mateo Retegui already waved goodbye to the club.
Retegui joined Atalanta earlier this week following Gianluca Scamacca’s injury. Genoa have immediately gone on the hunt for a new center-forward, identifying Inter flop Joaquin Correa as a potential low-cost solution.
