Done Deal: Fiorentina Schedule Albert Gudmundsson Medical

Albert Gudmundsson’s long-rumored switch from Genoa to Fiorentina has become a mere formality, with the deal approaching the finish line. According to Fabrizio Romano, La Viola have booked a medical date for the Iceland international.

Gudmundsson could become the new Fiorentina player as early as Saturday. He’ll undergo his medical tomorrow before signing the papers. Raffaele Palladino’s side will part with a hefty €8 million loan fee, with a mandatory buyout option at the end of the season set at €17m, plus another €3.5m in add-ons.

That’s close to Genoa’s €30m asking price. Once they’ve unveiled the 27-year-old forward as their latest summer signing, Fiorentina could set free Juventus target Nicolas Gonzalez. Heavily linked with a move to the Allianz Stadium, the Argentine is waiting for the club’s permission to head to Turin, having already agreed on personal terms with the Bianconeri.

Gudmudsson’s arrival could be a season-defining acquisition for Fiorentina as they hope to improve on last season’s underwhelming eighth-place finish. On the other hand, this agreement could significantly derail Genoa’s hopes of staying in Serie A for a third consecutive season unless they can find a suitable replacement.

Alberto Gilardino’s men have stalled Gudmundsson’s switch to Fiorentina, looking to sign the Icelandic star’s heir first. Their search has brought them to Sassuolo’s doorstep. Per multiple reports, Andrea Pinamonti is the likeliest candidate to fill Gudmundsson’s shoes at Stadio Luigi Ferraris, with the Italian set to arrive on loan with an option to buy.
