Summer Call on Bremer Key to Juventus Early Success

Juventus collected another pretty easily clean sheet on their way to a three-nil romp of Genoa, marking their sixth consecutive game without scoring. No team had done it at the start of the season since 1994/1995, Opta relays (via TuttoFantacalcio).

The overall record belongs to 2015/2016’s Bianconeri that didn’t concede for 974 minutes. The current squad has a ways to go to beat it as they are up to 540 minutes.

The Juventus defense could have looked a lot different this season and not just because Pierre Kalulu was far from the top choice to bolster it. The Old Lady fielded a few inquiries for Gleison Bremer at the beginning of the summer, Calciomercato reports. His sale would have been highly profitable as major clubs, especially Manchester United, were keen on him.

However, the management resisted the temptation, confirmed him on the squad, and re-upped his contract, tweaking his future release clause. The decision has proven to be pivotal. He’s been one of the best center-backs in Europe and the only man that has played every minute so far.

Our Take on Juventus and Bremer

They probably would have landed either Riccardo Calafiori or more likely Jean-Clair Todibo since they would have cashed in €60M or so, but the grass isn’t always greener on the other side of the fence, and they would have still needed another elite piece. Perhaps they wouldn’t have sold Dean Huijsen, who, despite his rawness, would have looked pretty good in Thiago Motta’s schemes, but they are certainly pleased with their calls for now.
