Juventus will not make any rush calls in the January transfer window despite losing Gleison Bremer to a potentially season-ending injury. According to club sporting director Cristiano Giuntoli, Thiago Motta has ‘a lot of quality to choose from.’
Bremer sustained a nasty knee injury during midweek UEFA Champions League action. He collapsed onto the pitch only six minutes into Juve’s 3-2 win against RB Leipzig. After an innocuous foot race against Lois Openda, the Brazilian stayed on the ground in pain and had to be helped by the medical staff to leave the field.
Further scans have shown an ACL tear, meaning Juventus will be without the 27-year-old center-back for most of the season. However, Giuntoli will not immediately dive back into the transfer market to replace Motta’s most reliable defender. The Bianconeri chief executive has trust in the current options.
“We are very sad for him personally, but also for all of us, because we lose a great player,” the Juventus SD said, as reported by TMW. “The coach will have to make do with the other players in the squad, but he has a lot of quality to choose from.”
Giuntoli refused to exclude another incoming deal in the winter transfer window, but only if an opportunity presents itself.
“It is still very early to say, so we’ll see how the team reacts and if there are any opportunities in January,” he said.
Juventus signed Pierre Kalulu from Milan on loan with an option to buy in August. The Frenchman could be a short-term solution, considering he can cover multiple roles at the back.
