Milan cannot catch a break in the early stage of Paulo Fonseca’s tenure, with the Rossoneri bleeding points on multiple fronts. Christian Pulisic has been a rare bright spot at Stadio San Siro this season, and the Portuguese manager cannot afford to lose the United States captain for a single game.
However, according to Gazzetta dello Sport, Pulisic will return to base late from the international break. The 26-year-old Milan ace is currently in North America as the USMNT gear up for their first set of fixtures under new manager Mauricio Pochettino. They will take on Panama and Mexico in a pair of friendlies after a disappointing 2024 Copa America campaign.
With Pulisic captaining his national team, he’ll return to Milan only 48 hours before a high-stakes Serie A encounter against Udinese, scheduled for Saturday, October 19. Alongside the ex-Chelsea forward, out-of-sorts midfielder Yunus Musah will be late for the team gathering ahead of Udinese’s visit to San Siro.
Considering the intensity of the matches and a congested fixture schedule, Fonseca remains worried about Pulisic’s physical condition. The star winger has been in red-hot form this season, tallying six goals and two assists in nine appearances across all competitions. His equalizer last weekend was in vain, as Fiorentina defeated Milan 2-1 in Tuscany.
Another underwhelming result left the Rossoneri five points off early Serie A pacesetters Napoli during the break. Therefore, Milan must return to the win column against Udinese to prevent further downfall, yet losing Pulisic for that clash hardly bodes well.
