Lazio boss Maurizio Sarri has decided to hand his players a two day break following their lethargic performance against Bologna on Sunday, a 3-0 loss at the Stadio Renato Dall’Ara.
The Biancocelesti entered the weekend clash on the back of a 2-0 victory over Lokomotiv Moscow in the Europa League matchday 2 of the group stages. They welcomed the Russians to Stadio Olimpico on Thursday evening, permitting them to rest for less than 72 hours for the Bologna encounter.
Before their match against Lokomotiv, the 62-year-old coach had highlighted his side’s tight schedule of matches in his pre-match press conference. To which, Lega Serie A released an official statement stating how every club involved in both domestic and continental matches are subject to such situations and that Lazio will not be treated uniquely.
Lazio will resume training in Formello on Wednesday morning, giving them ample amount of time to prepare for their showdown against Italian champions Inter on October 16, when the Serie A season resumes after the international break.
They will look to replicate their performance against Jose Mourinho’s Roma where they won 3-2 in the Derby della Capitale a week ago, in stark contrast to their slow display against Bologna.
