Mehdi Taremi’s future has been one of the hottest topics this summer, with Milan considering a late bid for the in-demand Porto striker. As per Calciomercato, the Italians have held a new set of talks with the Primeira Liga giants to understand a deal feasibility.
With Lorenzo Colombo inching closer to joining Monza on loan, Milan won’t let the clock run down before finding a sustainable backup option for Olivier Giroud. Noah Okafor will be Stefano Pioli’s go-to option if the club’s pursuit of a new center-forward fails to come to fruition down the final stretch of the summer transfer window.
Milan and Porto have re-opened negotiations for Taremi’s switch to Serie A. However, Sergio Conceicao’s men must drop their demands to facilitate the 31-year-old’s departure. After splashing out north of €100 million on reinforcing Pioli’s squad this summer, the budget has run thin. It puts Porto’s €30m asking price well beyond their reach.
But Milan remain hopeful of driving the price down in the final days of the summer. Rossoneri cannot go beyond €10-15m, which will unlikely satisfy Porto’s appetites. The idea is to raise funds by selling Divock Origi and Fode Ballo-Toure, yet the clock is ticking.
On that basis, the only remaining option would be to convince Porto to let Taremi head to Serie A on loan. Given the Iranian’s significance to Conceicao’s set-up, that prospect looks far-fetched. But Milan must try if they’re to address the shortage of numbers in the final third.
