Mourinho: “Audience Would Have Turned TVs Off If We Went 5-0 Up”

A Tammy Abraham brace followed by two quickfire goals from new Porto signing Sergio Oliveira and young talent Nicolo Zaniolo was enough to hand Jose Mourinho’s team an emphatic 4-0 lead in the first half.

Empoli however, managed to answer back with two goals in the second half, albeit falling short to the Giallorossi’s grandiose first half performance.

Mourinho, in his post-match press interview to DAZN, reveled in his third consecutive victory across all competitions, all the while joking about the side’s lackluster performance in the second period.

“Yes we could’ve controlled the game better, but this is still a big achievement. It’s not easy to win 4-2 here. Coming into this game we already knew that Lazio, Atalanta, and Fiorentina all dropped points, so it was important for us to win and we did it. As for the second half, we did it for the audience. They would’ve turned their TV’s off it we went up 5-0.” (via Goal.com)

Roma clinched the 6th position after their win over Empoli at the Stadio Carlo Castellani, as they capitalized on their neighbors’ chances of failing to garner all three points.

In a surprising Serie A matchweek, five of the top eight teams failed to win their respective matches, as they were pitched against one another.

Lazio and Atalanta played out a toothless draw at the Stadio Olimpico, whereas Milan and Juventus replicated the stalemate at the San Siro. Ten-man Fiorentina also drew 1-1, but to relegation-bound Cagliari.
