Loftus-Cheek Shows Gratitude to Milan for Reigniting His Love for Football

Milan midfielder Ruben Loftus-Cheek is adamant the Italians have unlocked his potential after Chelsea ‘caged’ him last season. The 27-year-old joined Rossoneri in a €16 million deal in the summer and has quickly become one of the crucial components of Stefano Pioli’s set-up.

Loftus-Cheek has gone from strength to strength at the start of his Milan career. He and Tijjani Reijnders have forged a formidable midfield partnership, providing the backbone for the club’s outrageous form in the 2023/24 Serie A season.

With seven wins from eight matches, Milan headed into the international break as the Serie A leaders, with Loftus-Cheek at the thick of their early success. Following a troubled time at Chelsea last term, he is back to his best in the Rossoneri colors.

Unfortunately, the Englishman has missed the last two games due to injury. He won’t be on the field when Milan and Juventus trade tackles on Sunday. But he feels Pioli boasts the best squad in Serie A and backs his side to mount a genuine Scudetto challenge until the end.

We feel we are the best, but for these things… we will see at the end,” Loftus-Cheek said in his recent interview.

He looked back at his underwhelming stint at Chelsea and drew comparison with his current life at Milan.

I didn’t play as much as I would have liked and I went on the pitch in positions where I couldn’t express myself. The last season was very difficult.

At Milan, I have a free mind, and I play the position as I like; it’s like being a child again when we played football without worries.
