There’s finally some light at the end of a long dark tunnel for Juventus superstar midfielder Paul Pogba. His appeal to the Court of Arbitration for Sport bore fruit as his heartbreaking four-year ban from football pitches dropped to ‘only‘ 18 months on Friday.
Found guilty of using a prohibited substance earlier this year, Pogba received a lengthy suspension. It threatened to end the Juventus playmaker’s career, considering he’d be a 35-year-old by the time the ban is lifted, leaving little room for a potential comeback at the top level.
As if a series of injury setbacks upon his return to Juventus weren’t morale-wracking enough, Pogba has had to deal with this devastating suspension, further derailing his already troubled second stint in Turin.
Despite the challenges, the reduced ban offers a glimmer of hope that the Frenchman may still have a chance to revive his career at Juventus and make an impact before it’s too late.
In a heartfelt statement, as reported by Fabrizio Romano, the Juventus superstar expressed his relief and gratitude.
“Finally, the nightmare is over,” the statement read. “I can look forward to the day when I can follow my dreams again.
“I always stated that I never knowingly breached Anti-Doping regulations, I play with integrity and I want to thank the Court of Arbitration who heard my explanation.
“This has been a hugely distressing period in my life because everything I’ve worked so hard for has been put on hold. Thank you for all the love and support. I can’t wait to get back on the pitch,” the Juventus joint-highest earner wrote.
